چکیده

Dermoid cysts are benign tumors that represent the simplest form of teratoma (1). Approximately 7% of dermoid cysts affect the head and neck region, and within this region, they are commonly found along the orbital walls(2). Orbital dermoid cysts occur most commonly along the lateral aspect of the orbit, in approximately 69% of cases. Intraorbital location is relatively rare for these lesions. It is known that the treatment of periorbital dermoid cysts is easier than intraorbital cysts which require more aggressive interventions (3).The choice of surgical approach for the resection of orbital cyst is determined by the cyst position in the orbital space as a rule and the best choice is the most direct approach to orbital tumor. Lateral orbitotomy as the extracranial orbital approach is favorable for radical resection of the tumor, which growth is limited to the anterior, lateral and superolateral orbital segment. (1, 2, 3). We hereby report three cases of intraorbital dermoid cyst, which were totally excised by minimally invasive surgery. MINIMAL INVASIVE EXCISION OF INTRAORBITAL DERMOID CYST

The most frequently involved area is the periorbital area, followed by the nasal dorsum, submental area, and the suprasternal area [1]. Periorbital dermoid cysts are congenital tumors that appear along the naso-optic groove between th...

Malignant transformation of a long-standing submental dermoid cyst to a carcinosarcoma: a case report

BACKGROUND Submental dermoid cysts are uncommon midline cysts which occur due to entrapment of ectoderm between the second and third branchial arches during embryogenesis. Most dermoid cysts of the head and neck are benign, but rarely malignant transformation may occur. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of a carcinosarcoma arising in a submental dermoid cyst. CASE PRESENT...

Orbital diploic dermoids.

Dermoid cysts are relatively common in the region of the orbit and usually occur along the bone suture lines. Periorbital dermoids are frequently encountered at the angles of the orbit and intraorbital dermoids are usually situated outside the muscle cone. Some dermoids, such as those reported below, arise within the diploe of the skull and orbital bones. They expand both inner and outer tables...

Dermoid cysts are rare developmental teratomatous lesions composed of ectodermally derived stratified squamous epithelium and mesodermally derived skin adnexal structures. Although several theories have been postulated, the pathogenesis of dermoid cysts and teratomatous lesions in general is unclear. Ovary is the most frequent affected organ, but it can occur in the mediastinum retroperitoneum,...
